Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture visits Mexican farms to ratify results

From April 9 to 16, experts from the Ministry of Agriculture of Japan (MAFF) visited some fields and agricultural packaging in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico as part of the project: "Determination of Susceptibility of Commercial Hybrids of Bell Pepper to Tobacco Blue Mold, to the opening of this product to the Japanese market."

The Japanese delegation during the visit.

The Japanese delegation carried out work to ratify the results of a study that began in 2018, as well as demonstrating the inoculation tests of bell pepper plants and inspection of fields and experimental facilities.

During the closing event of the visit, the representatives of Japan thanked the attention and hospitality provided by the AMHPAC, CAADES-CIDH, CIAD, and SENASICA teams, in addition to the flexibility there was to carry out visits to agricultural areas.

They said that back in Japan, they will submit the results obtained to a series of analyses and studies at the facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture in that country.

  • Julio Cesar Perez, research and institutional defense of CIDH.

The companies that opened their doors for this visit were Agroindustrias Tombell, Divemex, Rene Produce, Agrícola Paredes, Ceuta, and Tricar. Rijk Zwaan, Enza Zaden, Syngenta, and Vilmorin participated by donating seeds to carry out the project.

Some activities are still pending and the association hopes to conclude with a positive determination so that in the coming months the opening of the Japanese market to Mexican peppers will be authorized.

It should be noted that this project arose from an initiative of the working group formed by AMHPAC, CAADES-CIDH, CIAD, and SENASICA to offer new markets for Mexican horticulturists.
