The Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability is aiming to revitalize its greenhouse, originally constructed in 2018. This initiative stems from recent discussions among members seeking innovative methods to cultivate plants effectively, particularly during the intense summer heat.
A key component of this revival involves securing pending grants, which would also facilitate the introduction of hydroponic containers, enabling soil-free plant growth. One significant grant, dedicated to advancing hydroponics, is anticipated through a collaborative effort with the South Texas Advancement Resource. This organization is known for its commitment to training in sustainable farming, ranching, and land management.
The proposed grant spans three years and is valued at approximately one hundred fifty thousand dollars.
