NL: Moving forward together with horticultural residual streams

Platform Tuinbouwreststromen (Platform for Horticultural Residual Flows) is entering a new phase. After successfully developing seven circular value chains based on residual flows from horticulture, momentum continues to build. Dozens more chains are ready for further development.

The approach is now shifting, from being supply-driven to becoming demand-driven, aligning more closely with market needs and opportunities.

Initiated by growers' associations
In recent years, grower associations Fossa Eugenia, ZON, and SunFresh, along with LLTB, have taken the initiative to establish Platform Tuinbouwreststromen. Working closely with growers and businesses, they have developed circular value chains based on residual streams from horticulture.

By pooling knowledge and expertise, the platform has helped increase the value of these by-products, contributing to circular revenue models for growers.

The results speak for themselves: seven value chains are now running successfully, and dozens more are ready to launch. This milestone was recently celebrated by all the partners involved.

Shift from supply-driven to demand-driven
The founding partners have now handed over the responsibility for continuing the Platform Tuinbouwreststromen to Bluehub, though they will remain actively involved.

As the initiative moves forward, the focus is shifting from supply-driven to demand-driven valorization of residual streams. The key question: Where are the real opportunities to apply plant-based residuals in sectors like food, animal feed, biobased materials, soil health, and energy?

To answer that, the platform is looking for active partners in Southeast Netherlands, from industry leaders to socially engaged organizations ready to drive meaningful change.

Call to action
Platform Tuinbouwreststromen is eager to connect with individuals and organizations working in food, animal feed, biobased material development, soil improvement, or energy generation.

They also welcome collaboration with those driving impactful social transitions, and anyone who can make practical use of horticultural residual streams.
