For more than 40 years, Cravo Equipment has been designing and manufacturing automatic retractable roof solutions. "They have been shaped by decades of research and collaboration on projects across six continents," says Cravo's President Richard Vollebregt. "We serve growers in the fruit, vegetable, and flower segments to protect their crops from heat, wind, rain, and insects."
Retractable roof houses were previously used mostly for high-value greenhouse crops. However, more extreme rain, hail and heat patterns globally has caused many growers to look for lower cost ways to protect large areas of lower value field, orchard and vineyard crops. "This prompted us to develop new lower-cost motorized models like Auto-Dry rain shelters and Flat Roof + Auto-Dry, for enhanced control of insects or extreme temperatures plus rain. These new models help increase yields and quality. Additionally, they shift the harvest forwards or backwards to hit the highest price window.
In addition to growing plants, retractable roof houses are increasingly used for industrial purposes like drying beds for coir, or sludge or for training areas for sports like cricket.

This expansion in crops and uses forced Cravo to develop a new website that better reflects the different solutions the company offers and helps to reach all relevant industries. "It contains a dedicated section on the new lower cost systems now available," commented Vollebregt. In addition, a separate section has been created for industrial use. Changes in the business have also resulted in Cravo's roof houses becoming relevant in more regions globally. As a result, the website is now available in three languages. "It was already available in English and Spanish, but we've added the Arabic language due to increased demand from the Middle East and North Africa."
