Babylon Micro-Farms reports growth across institutional sectors

After expanding its institutional footprint, Babylon Micro-Farms has celebrated a series of high-profile recognitions and the continued deployment of its modular indoor farming systems. From hospitals and cruise ships to college campuses and corporate dining spaces, the company's turnkey approach to on-site food production is now used across a range of sectors.

The company recently moved up more than 100 places to rank #34 on the 2024 FoodTech 500, a list highlighting startups operating at the intersection of food, technology, and sustainability. Maritime deployments recognized at F&B@Sea
Babylon was also named Trailblazing Product of the Year at F&B@Sea 2025, an award highlighting innovation in maritime food and beverage systems. "It validates that our technology meets the unique demands of maritime hospitality while also aligning with the industry's push toward more sustainable and self-reliant food systems."

Cruise lines such as MSC Cruises and Columbia Cruise Services are now using Babylon's micro-farms to grow produce directly on board. "We truly are able to offer autonomous growing with our remote management through our patented farming technology."

System design and remote operation
Babylon's hydroponic units are designed to be compact and low-maintenance, requiring less than two hours of weekly labor. "Our micro-farms are designed to be plug-and-play," Hayes explained. "Their modular, modern design fits seamlessly into both front and back-of-house spaces." Each system runs on the BabylonIQ software platform, which automates irrigation, lighting, and nutrient delivery.

Paired with the Guided Growing App, the platform enables staff without prior farming experience, like cruise chefs, hospital dietitians, or university interns, to manage consistent yields. "The app provides intuitive, step-by-step instructions for every task, while BabylonIQ manages system performance across hundreds of farms. Our team can remotely monitor and support the entire fleet, ensuring reliability and oversight at scale."

Applications across sectors
Deployment varies by context. "In healthcare, micro-farms support food-as-medicine initiatives and therapeutic engagement," Hayes said. At Mayo Clinic's Rochester Methodist Hospital, fresh produce is grown on-site to improve nutrition for both patients and staff.

In corporate settings, Babylon's systems are integrated into wellness and sustainability initiatives. Companies including LinkedIn, Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass Group have installed micro-farms in breakrooms and dining areas.

On university campuses, the farms function as food sources and teaching tools. "At William & Mary, the sustainability team oversees the farm, with interns using it as a hands-on learning opportunity. It's integrated into broader sustainability initiatives and helps engage students in food systems, climate action, and community health."

Product development guided by client input
Client feedback plays an active role in Babylon's ongoing development. "We regularly conduct user experience interviews and pulse surveys to better understand how our clients interact with the farms." Feedback from partners such as MSC Cruises, Mayo Clinic, and LinkedIn has informed updates to the Guided Growing App, refinements to hardware, and expansions to customer support resources.

Each installation includes onboarding support from a dedicated account manager, live chat assistance, and real-time technical troubleshooting. "This blend of proactive support and smart infrastructure allows us to deliver a reliable, high-quality experience at scale."
