Dutch tomato grower BraZander is venturing into pepper cultivation after acquiring Kwekerij Mooijman, the company has announced.
Kwekerij Mooijman grows different kinds of peppers on 2.2 hectares in Berkel en Rodenrijs, and this is their fifth season there. Arthur Mooijman first started growing peppers in 2011 in Nootdorp. In 2023, he stopped cultivating peppers in Nootdorp and sold the greenhouse to the municipality, focusing entirely on the operation in Berkel.
When planting peppers for the 2025 season, Arthur didn't realize it would be his last year. The decision to transfer the business happened quickly, with the help of Yeald, with Kwekerij Mooijman planning to hand over the greenhouse by the end of the year, after finishing the current crop.
BraZander is active in tomato cultivation at multiple locations and also has experience in growing bell peppers. However, growing peppers is a new venture for them, and it is something that Arthur will aid them in to help them get started.

The growers quickly found each other recently. This resulted in the takeover, facilitated by Yeald, being swiftly concluded.
No tomatoes after all
Paul Zantman expressed his satisfaction, saying, "We are happy with it." Although BraZander has previously grown different types of bell peppers, they haven't grown peppers before. The decision to start pepper cultivation happened somewhat by chance. "We were originally looking for a greenhouse to expand our tomato production," he explained. However, after discussions with Kwekerij Mooijman, they decided to shift towards growing peppers. "We already work with various end customers, and peppers make an excellent addition," he added. Despite this new venture, BraZander still aims to expand its tomato production. "Everyone is looking for the perfect terrace," noted the tomato grower, referring to the benefits of diversifying into peppers.
