US: Webinar on post-harvest lettuce treatment announced

The American Society for Horticultural Science is hosting a webinar on post-harvest lettuce research.

Lettuce is a popular leafy vegetable that can play an important role in human nutrition and diets with regular consumption. The type of production system, such as high tunnel, green roof or open field environments as well as cultivar choice can influence the nutritional composition of lettuce.

Moreover, different handling and storage treatments including the use of clamshells, keeping the roots intact or removal of the roots can affect the shelf-life and quality of lettuce. This webinar will focus on how various preharvest systems and storage treatments affect lettuce quality. Specifically, we will delve into how various phytochemicals including chlorophyll, carotenoids (total carotenoids and six quantitated carotenoids), anthocyanins, phenolic compounds and antioxidants are influenced by pre and postharvest systems.

The webinar is taking place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 2:00 pm EDT / 11:00 am PDT.
