At the Aardwarmte Polanen site in Monster, the Netherlands, construction is in full swing these weeks. A team of specialists is working closely together on the next phase of the geothermal installation.
The day after Easter had been marked on the calendar for a long time; at 7:00 AM, large cranes drove onto the site. Because on this day, the large tanks that were already on the site were set upright. What until recently were only drawings and calculations on paper is now becoming reality, shares Aardwarmte Polanen in a project update.
Large tanks in place
April 22 was a special milestone: several large tanks were hoisted into place. Early in the morning, the cranes were ready to set the first tank – the balance tank – in its place. This tank, with a capacity of 100 cubic meters, had to be set upright and carefully lowered onto the round concrete disc on which it is mounted. A precision task for the crane operator and the support team.
After the balance tank, the expansion tanks followed. Then it was the turn of the degasser: a horizontal tank 15.5 meters long and with a diameter of 2.8 meters. This was mounted on the previously placed concrete supports. Within 10 minutes, this tank was also exactly in place.
"You can tell from everything that the preparation is paying off," says construction manager Ruud Bruin. "Everyone knows what needs to be done, and it's wonderful to see how everything is now coming together on the site. The installation is literally and figuratively taking shape."

Looking ahead: building and testing
With the placement of these large components, a new phase has begun. In the coming months, the installation will be further built up. Among other things, the pipe bridges will be installed, forming the connection between the various parts of the system. After the summer, the interior of the building will begin. Here, the filters, pumps, and heat exchangers will find their place.
23 horticultural entrepreneurs connected to Warmtenet Polanen
If everything goes according to plan, testing of the installation will begin at the end of 2025. This brings sustainable heat supply for more horticultural entrepreneurs in Westland ever closer. In the vicinity of the geothermal location, work is currently underway on the construction of the Polanen heat network. In the future, 23 horticultural entrepreneurs will receive sustainable heat from Aardwarmte Polanen.
