Prior to entering administration, JFC had begun supplying major UK retailers

Jones Food Company business and assets now on the market, administrators seek buyer

The business and assets of Jones Food Company (JFC) are now being marketed for sale by joint administrators Damian Webb and Stephanie Sutton of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP. JFC entered administration on 7 April 2025. The company's fully equipped vertical farming facility, brand, stock, and intellectual property are all included in the offering.

The site, located in Lydney, Gloucestershire, is currently mothballed but may be restarted immediately by a prospective buyer. The sales memorandum, circulated on LinkedIn and published by RSM UK, presents the business as a ready-to-operate controlled environment agriculture (CEA) platform.

According to the memorandum, the facility includes "combined grow space of more than 20,000m² with a combined growing capacity of 1,150t+ per year." Proven outputs include "salads, herbs (loose and potted), tree saplings and house plants." The business also holds "B Corporation certification and all key agricultural accreditations."

More than £25 million in investment and patented automation
According to the flyer, more than £25 million has been invested in the site's infrastructure, including automation systems protected by 30 patents. These cover in-house robotics designed to manage the planting, nurturing, and harvesting processes within a controlled environment.

The facility is equipped with environmental control systems that fine-tune humidity, temperature, CO₂ levels, lighting, and nutrient delivery. The system reportedly reduces water consumption by up to 90% per kilogram of produce and can deliver yields up to 100 times greater per square meter than field-grown crops.

Energy efficiency and reduced food miles
The company claims the site reduces water usage by "up to 90% per kg of produce compared to traditional farming methods," and achieves yields "up to 100x greater per m² than field-grown crops." The facility is "supplied by renewable energy" and achieves "food miles [reduced] by 95% for select crops."
