Recent developments in greenhouse automation: Serragrow 4.0, a technologically advanced system for the intelligent management of greenhouses, has been developed by the Italian company Ofylia. Serragrow 4.0 signifies a substantial advancement in the realm of agricultural greenhouse automation.
"The traditional greenhouse is transformed into a smart environment thanks to a flexible infrastructure and the integration of sensors and actuators. This technology makes it possible to automate and improve any existing structure, transforming it into an intelligent environment. The system operates 24/7, minimizing human error, optimizing resource consumption, and ensuring continuous and optimal growing conditions. It is designed for seamless management through a user-friendly interface, ensuring ease of use for both professionals and less experienced users," says Franco Fantozzi, CEO and Commercial Manager of Ofylia.

The Serragrow 4.0 system is composed of an autonomous control unit, a network of environmental sensors positioned both inside and outside the greenhouse, and automated actuators. This integrated system facilitates remote monitoring of critical parameters, including temperature, humidity, leaf wetness, solar radiation, and soil water content, among other agronomically relevant values. The data collected is analyzed and processed in real time to adjust windows, ventilation, and irrigation systems, ensuring optimal conditions for each stage of the crop cycle.
"Our technology is based on three pillars: efficiency, sustainability, and precision. Serragrow 4.0 gives farmers full control over their operations, even from a remote location. The digital platform is compatible with mobile devices and computers and allows for real-time notification of any anomalies or opportunities for intervention. In addition, the system uses an advanced internal algorithm that continuously processes weather and historical data to generate customized management strategies, further improving operational efficiency. This integrated approach improves the accuracy of operational decisions, reduces the risk of unplanned actions, and supports more informed management."
In an ecological context, Serragrow 4.0 promotes the intelligent use of resources. For example, irrigation is utilized only when absolutely necessary, ventilation is activated according to actual conditions, and phytosanitary treatments can be reduced thanks to preventive monitoring. In a context marked by water scarcity, rising production costs, and increasing pressure on environmental sustainability, our system is an effective and ready-to-use alternative.

"One of the main advantages is fully remote management. The grower can monitor and intervene from anywhere, viewing greenhouse conditions in real time and changing operating parameters via a smartphone or computer. Alternatively, the system can act autonomously based on pre-defined parameters," he says.
"The Decision Support System (DSS) is the strategic heart of Serragrow 4.0. It collects and processes data from the sensors and compares it with up-to-date weather information, climate maps, crop history, and other agronomic data. In this way, the DSS is able to generate optimized operational strategies for each phase of the crop cycle," concludes Franco Fantozzi. "It can suggest when to anticipate a harvest, avoid a treatment in the face of imminent rainfall, or modulate irrigation in the following days. This intelligent automation enables farmers to focus on strategic and managerial aspects, while the system handles the technical and operational analysis. The result is an increased margin of profitability, reduced risk, and lower environmental impact."
Oflyia will participate in Macfrut 2025 with the official launch of Serragrow 4.0, located in Hall B5, Stand 092. The Italian company will present the most advanced functionalities and offer practical demonstrations aimed at growers, technicians, and stakeholders in the sector. This event is a hands-on opportunity to experience the future of greenhouse horticulture.
