From 15 April to 13 May 2025, greenhouse horticulture entrepreneurs can again apply for EC subsidy for energy-saving measures. The scheme focuses on investments that contribute to lower CO₂ emissions. The subsidy budget amounts to €40 million, with a maximum of 20% per investment.
Main changes in the EC Subsidy for 2025
LED Lighting. The subsidy applies exclusively to installations where existing lighting is completely replaced by LED, or for new installations in unlit greenhouses. The maximum eligible amount is €500,000. The eligible costs are capped at €0.35 per mmol/s per m² of installed greenhouse surface.
Energy screens. For existing greenhouses, a subsidy can be requested for a second or third energy screen. For newly built greenhouses, a second screen is considered standard; subsidy is only possible for a third screen. The screens must yield at least 35% energy savings and may not block more than 25% of the light.
Other measures. The scheme also encourages connection to a heating network and mutual heat exchange between greenhouses. In addition, high-pressure fogging installations are eligible for subsidy, provided the droplet size is smaller than 5 micrometers.
Air handling systems. This year, air treatment systems are again covered by the EC subsidy. These systems contribute to energy-efficient climate control in the greenhouse. Through controlled air circulation and dehumidification, growers can deal more efficiently with heat and ventilation, without energy loss through open screens or windows. This reduces both energy consumption and light emissions.
This category also includes the Airmix from Van der Ende Group. This system enables energy-efficient controlled dehumidification with a closed screen, for an optimal greenhouse climate.
