Sicilian table tomatoes aim to meet the needs of the professional market, combining family farming tradition with an innovative approach and certified quality. Founded on solid values and a strong territorial identity, Azienda Agricola Fondacaro, located in Vittoria (RG), Sicily, stands out on the local production scene for the attention devoted to every step of the process, from sowing to harvesting. The result is a range of tomatoes that meets the needs of the supply chain, with consistent quality designed to meet the demands of the H&R and big retail chain sectors.

New varieties for an evolving market
"With almost 4 hectares, we have been focusing on small berry tomatoes for years and more recently, we have specialised in coloured specialities," explain brothers Angelo and Claudio Fondacaro. "The main objective is to be in line with the requirements of the modern supply chain with tasty products that boast the right balance in the acid/sugar ratio and a Brix level that has to surprise end consumers. While red plum tomatoes remain a top product for us, yellow ones are also becoming increasingly important. There is an ever-increasing demand for them on the market, even though it can sometimes be commercially erratic, yet not for those who, like us, enter into contracts with fixed prices.
These items are added to the company's already wide selection, which includes cherry, black midi plum, and other segments. Everything is always grown according to strict quality and traceability standards.

"The yellow plum variety from this seed company responds to our philosophy of compensating for the lack of taste in modern tomatoes, and, in fact, it is not only very good to eat, but it also has a Brix level of over 10-11. Furthermore, it is resistant to the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus. With this variety, we have had no problems with the virus during the winter phase, which is a significant advantage over other competitors. Another aspect is the remarkable resistance to fruit splitting, which allows fruits to be harvested in bunches with healthy, undamaged produce. Other varieties often do not give the possibility to be harvested 'in bunches' because they split, while we have not had a single fruit affected by cracking: that is the strength of this variety," highlight Angelo and Claudio Fondacaro.
