Westland Seeds strengthens breeding team

In recent years, Westland Seeds has successfully entered new markets with existing commercial varieties. However, there are still significant growth opportunities in some of these new markets. To make the most of this, expanding the breeding team became a necessity. For this reason, last year the breeding team was strengthened with two experienced professionals: Suzanne Hesemans and Bart Brugmans.

Suzanne Hesemans has an extensive background in plant breeding. In 1998, she completed her studies in Plant Breeding & Crop Protection at Wageningen University. Since then, she has worked as a plant breeder at various breeding companies.

Bart Brugmans is a driven researcher with broad knowledge of molecular techniques and their application in breeding programs. His expertise helps Westland Seeds to develop and further refine innovative breeding strategies. Additionally, Bart has contributed to four patents, highlighting his deep knowledge and innovative approach in the sector.

Acquisition
Last week, it was announced that founder Wim Grootscholten is stepping down and that the full ownership of the breeding company has now been acquired by the existing management: Iwan van Vliet and Ferry Strik. They have been co-shareholders since January 1, 2019, and are now full owners of Westland Seeds.
