On average, a kilo of tomatoes fetched €2.05 in March in the European Union. On the tomato dashboard filled with figures maintained by the European Commission, Spanish prices, in particular, stand out. Prices for cherry and specialty tomatoes were 46% higher than in March 2024, and prices for loose tomatoes (+40%) and vine tomatoes (+22%) were also significantly higher than a year earlier. © Europese Commissie
Dutch tomato prices were also higher than last March, although the differences are smaller. For cherry and specialty tomatoes, the increase was highest at 7%. For vine tomatoes, the average price paid was €1.68 per kilo. This price is 4% higher than last year, but 4% lower than the five-year average. The price for loose tomatoes is also below the five-year average, by 7% in March.
