CAN: Approval granted for greenhouse on Minto agricultural property

A Minto resident near Teviotdale will get to build his greenhouse following a decision by the town's committee of adjustment on Tuesday afternoon.

Andrew Bauman attended the meeting, but had little to say as the committee considered his application for a minor variance to allow the construction of a greenhouse almost double the size of what the town's zoning bylaw allows.

Bauman's property on 1st Line consists of roughly four acres of agricultural land with a single detached home and detached garage. The proposal asked to allow the construction of a greenhouse of 6,256 square feet, where normally, 3,450 square feet is the maximum area allowed for an accessory building.

"The greenhouse will be initially built at 278.71 square meters (3,000 square feet) and later expanded to 581.29 square meters (6,256 square feet)," the staff report said.
