VBT figures week 14

Rising volumes and falling prices of greenhouse-grown vegetables

The prices for tomatoes and cucumbers are currently neatly in line with the five-year average. Last week, the average price at the auctions of the Federation of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives dropped a bit. Pepper prices are also dropping, but the price is still well above the five-year average.

A kilo of loose tomatoes cost an average of 1.639 euros per kilo in week 14. For vine tomatoes, 1.742 euros per kilo was paid.

The average unit price for cucumber is 34.5 euro cents.

In peppers, prices for red, green, and yellow are falling, but at 3.085 (yellow), 1.056 (green), and 2.686 (red) per kilo, the prices are still above the five-year average.

The prices for asparagus, strawberries, and also for lettuce rose slightly last week. The sunny weather is boosting the demand for these products. Meanwhile, the volumes in greenhouse vegetables are also increasing visibly.

For strawberries, an average of 7.215 euros per kilo was paid in week 14. For the first time since week 11, the price is no longer falling.

White packaged asparagus fetched an average of 15.036 euros per kilo at the VBT auctions in week 14. For loose white asparagus, 12.425 euros per kilo was paid.

For head lettuce, the price rises slightly to 44.3 euro cents per piece. Prices are also rising for green oak leaf lettuce, red oak leaf lettuce, and Lollo Bionda from the greenhouses. Lollo Rossa and multicolor lettuce are dropping in price.
