UK: NFU calls tariffs a "significant challenge" for horticulture

The NFU has responded to the announcement of a 10% tariff on UK exports to the US, describing it as a significant challenge for British farming. Although the UK faces a lower baseline tariff compared to the EU's 20%, the union still considers it a "concerning situation" for farmers.

President Trump announced the new import taxes on all goods entering the US, describing these measures as "reciprocal" and necessary to address trade imbalances.

Tariffs of 10% will be implemented from Saturday, April 5, on all UK imports, with a 20% tariff on those from the European Union following a few days later. President Trump stated that these measures were needed because other countries were taking advantage of the US by imposing high tariffs and other trade barriers.

The decision to impose additional 10% tariffs on UK goods entering the US will likely result in higher prices for US consumers and create uncertainty for UK exporters.
