Kazakhstan to build $100M greenhouse and tomato processing complex

In May 2025, construction will begin on a 22-hectare greenhouse complex in the Shardarа region as part of an export-oriented agro-industrial cluster. This initiative, led by Agriqa Farms in partnership with the Italian company TRAMITE Group, aims to enhance local agricultural processing and expand international exports. Alongside the greenhouse, a tomato paste factory will be built, capable of processing 3,360 tons of raw materials per day. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a pelletizing plant that will produce 30 tons of alfalfa pellets per hour, a fruit and vegetable processing plant designed for drying and freezing 200 tons of raw materials daily, and a storage facility with a 20,000-ton capacity for fruits and vegetables. To ensure optimal storage conditions, a cold storage facility with a 10,000-ton capacity will also be developed.

To further support agricultural efficiency, an 8,000-hectare drip irrigation system will be installed starting in 2026, ensuring sustainable water use and improved crop yields. The total investment in the project is estimated at $100 million, making it a significant step toward boosting Kazakhstan's role in international agricultural markets.

Market demand
Recognizing Kazakhstan's potential as a major agricultural producer, TRAMITE Group is actively seeking local partners to supply natural food products. The company highlights the country's favorable climate and natural resources as key advantages for high-quality agricultural production. Given that Italy imports 180,000 tons of tomato paste annually, TRAMITE Group sees an opportunity to shift part of this supply chain to Kazakhstan and Central Asia, where local processing can add value to the region's agricultural output.

Government support for agricultural processing
The development of the greenhouse complex and processing facilities aligns with Kazakhstan's broader efforts to strengthen its agricultural sector. Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, emphasized the government's commitment to increasing the share of processed agricultural products to 70%. To support this goal, Kazakhstan is implementing a range of financial incentives, including subsidies covering 25% of investment costs for new and modernized processing facilities. Additionally, loan subsidies are being offered for working capital, while financial support is available for purchasing herbicides, fuel, fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural equipment.
