Gartenbau-Versicherung invests in forward-looking technologies that offer its policyholders measurable added value. In line with this strategy, it acquired a 49% stake in wirfliegendrohne.de at the end of November 2024. The Dortmund-based start-up specializes in precise 3D drone scans, interior laser scans and Building Information Modeling (BIM), which enables a digital representation of existing buildings.
Through this partnership, Gartenbau-Versicherung aims to make its processes more efficient and develop innovative solutions for its members. "We see great potential for making our business more targeted and opening up new opportunities for our member companies," emphasizes Christian Senft, CEO of Gartenbau-Versicherung. At the same time, the specialist insurer for the green industry expects wirfliegenrohne.de to expand its market success across all industries – an investment with both strategic and economic potential.

Optimized data pool for even better member support
The two companies already implemented the first pilot projects in 2024. In this way, data on the areas and properties of selected horticultural businesses was determined. "It is our shared conviction that risks, especially major risks, can be assessed much more realistically with meaningful data," explains Matthias Hartmann, founder and managing director of wirfliegenrohne.de.
Gartenbau-Versicherung intends to use the new technology to optimize its data pool and make it systematically usable for of its member companies. This will enable risk consultants to prepare even more specifically for consultations, as the data will provide them with excellent knowledge of the local conditions at an early stage. "Our aim is to be able to apply the high level of horticultural expertise of our field staff even more efficiently for of our members," explains Christian Senft.

Digitalization as the key to greater efficiency
The precise measurements not only allow insurance values to be estimated more accurately, but also make it easier to plan construction work and changes in the use of space. Thermographic images reveal weak points and help with energy-efficient renovation. Finally, interior laser scans can be used to create a detailed inventory of the operating equipment. In the future, members of Gartenbau-Versicherung will be able to benefit from all these possible applications.
Digitization serves to make work more economical. The resources saved in this way can be used in a targeted manner for the member companies. "For Gartenbau-Versicherung, participating in wirfliegendrohne.de is a strategic step towards offering its policyholders added value and continuing to provide reliable insurance protection at fair conditions," summarizes CEO Christian Senft.
