Ecofarm Storti proposes using ozone

ToBRFV: A threat without borders, a defence without compromise

The Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) currently represents one of the most serious phytosanitary emergencies for the European horticultural sector. This pathogen, which is extremely virulent and persistent, has demonstrated an unprecedented ability to spread, putting at risk not only production yields, but the very economic sustainability of farms.

"In this alarming scenario, traditional sanitation protocols are showing their limits. Despite being among the most technologically advanced, soilless crops are now facing an unprecedented challenge: guaranteeing biosecurity in a context where even the slightest contamination can trigger huge losses," reads a note from ozone specialist Ecofarm Storti.

"Ecofarm has been at the forefront of applied research for years, and it has developed an integrated ozone-based biosecurity system which currently represents the most advanced and effective solution against ToBRFV and other emerging pathogens. Our proposal envisaged the on-site generation of high concentration ozone, thereby allowing disinfection without chemical residues through virucidal, bactericidal and fungicidal activity."

It is a systemic approach that involves pre-transplant vacuum sanitisation with gaseous ozone, the continuous treatment of irrigation water and an active protection of plants and structures.

"The concrete advantages are considerable: up to 99.9% reduction of pathogenic load, reduced chemical costs, complete process automation, and certified environmental sustainability. Our studies show that the combined application of gaseous ozone for room sanitisation and ozone in water for the continuous treatment of plants through customised operating protocols helps achieve a level of protection that is impossible with traditional methods: in particular, the elimination of the risk of cross-contamination between cycles, active protection throughout cultivation, and the drastic reduction of production losses."

"We do not supply simple machines, but integrated solutions complete with customised risk analysis, tailor-made design, staff training, and ongoing support. Ecofarm's mission is to turn the ToBRFV threat into an opportunity to innovate and grow. In the fight against emerging pathogens, the difference between success and failure is measured in prevention and technology. With ozone, Ecofarm offers farmers an effective weapon to look to the future with confidence."
