Russell IPM has received CAAE registrations for its Recharge and Yokosan products, enabling their use in integrated crop management strategies by conventional and organic growers all over Europe. "Growing with less pesticides is top of mind for growers all over", says Nayem Hassan with Russell IPM.

Russell IPM is a UK manufacturer of insect-pheromone based monitoring and control products. Their range include products that help to reduce the use of pesticides. "Our goal is to maintain a safe, secure, sustainable and eco-friendly way of protecting food and other products from pest damage", says Nayem.
Recently, the company achieved CAAE mark registration for its products Recharce and Yokosan, ensuring these meet the necessary compliance for application in the European horticultural market, both organic and conventional "Growers looking to integrate biological solutions into their production systems can now incorporate these products within regulatory frameworks."
Recharge is a microbial soil amendment designed to support soil function and plant growth. The product consists of naturally occurring soil micro-organisms and plant nutrients. According to Russell IPM, Recharge restores soil microbial balance, enhances systemic acquired resistance (SAR), and increases nutrient absorption. The product is compatible with integrated pest management programmes and biorational control strategies. According to Nayem, this product provides a great example on how to create a more resistant cultivation, lowering the need to opt for chemical crop protection. "Recharge for example can prevent Tuta absoluta from establishing harmful population levels in tomato fields by deploying nature's own weapons – recharging the soil with the same beneficial organisms that nature uses to keep insect populations in balance. As Recharge is based on natural living organisms, which can grow and multiply in the soil, one simple application provides sustainable and cost-effective season long protection", Nayem says.
Large scale trials in Africa have demonstrated that fields protected by Recharge required substantially less chemical crop protection. "This helps growers save considerable cost and reduces the risk to consumer health associated with the over-use of pesticides", Nayem says. Also in cucumber trials the product was used, in the early stages of the growth within polytunnels. "Growers found that application of the product removed the need for both pesticides and fungicides, as the soil treatment provided full protection against both insects and pathogens."
Next in line is Yokosan, an organic liquid fertiliser composed of potassium humate, worm casting extract, and beneficial microorganisms. The product contains essential microelements, including iron, manganese, zinc, and copper. According to the company, Yokosan supports root system development and improves plant resilience to abiotic stress factors such as drought and salinity. The application rate is 1 litre per hectare with three applications per season.
"Growers using Recharge and Yokosan can integrate these products with existing biological and conventional strategies," Nayem adds. "The registration allows their use within certified organic and conventional growing systems."
