After weeks of falling cucumber prices rebounded at the auctions of the Federation of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives last week. For tomatoes, the recent increase in price stalled in week 12. As a result, the average price for vine tomatoes remains below the five-year average.

Average kilogram prices for loose tomatoes and vine tomatoes dropped to just over 2 euros per kilo in week 12. Steadily more unexposed crops are coming into production, increasing volumes.

The middle price for cucumber found its way up again last week. This puts the price, from 49.6 euro cents per unit average in week 12, back above the five-year average.

Local pepper volumes are still very low, and imports from Spain are also limited, leading to very high prices at the beginning of the local season here. Prices can currently rival those in 2023, when many growers very deliberately started later due to the energy crisis.

For head lettuce, prices have been cautiously rising in recent weeks, with a unit price now averaging 49.3 euro cents over week 12.
