US (ND): Watford school students use seeds to connect with community

The Watford City High School horticulture class is busy planting seeds as a way to connect with the community and fundraise for their FFA chapter. Watford City students are digging in and learning a valuable lesson on what it takes to grow plants.

"We are planting tomatoes, but we have also planted things like rosemary, oregano and all of those seeds over there. We have planted all of those, and there are a ton of peppers too," explained Watford City High School sophomore Kay Richardson.

This is all a part of a custom seed-starting program the horticulture students started as a way to provide plants to community members and raise funds for their FFA Chapter.

"We figured, let's just ask the people what they want and send out a form. They filled out what they wanted in their garden, and so we will custom-plant to get their garden started for them," said Samantha Doneen, Watford City High School agricultural teacher.
