European Commissioner in tractor-patterned tie enters tomato greenhouse

Dutch tomato company Looye Growers received a visit from Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen and State Secretary Jean Rummenie last week. On Thursday morning, the politicians walked through the tomato greenhouses and told the growers about how, with innovations and investments, they are on their way from fossil to climate-neutral cultivation, using biological plant protection products and recirculating water. SIG&F grants were also discussed.

Hansen was in the Netherlands for a two-day working visit. This is special, as Hansen's predecessor never visited member states. The visit is one of the many ways in which Hansen, wearing a tie with a tractor pattern, shows he wants to change the way Brussels agricultural policy is implemented: less strict environmental rules and more plans for farmers writes the FD reporting on his visit.
