India: Accusations of cheating hurled by vegetable growers at private market

Fakir Gudaji, a farmer leader, complained to the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police against the managing committee of Jai Kisan Wholesale Vegetable Market in Belagavi for cheating farmers and traders. The market management board has a role to play, and a complaint was filed with the district administration, demanding action against those concerned.

Speaking to media in Belagavi on Tuesday, Fakir alleged that farmers and traders are being treated unfairly at the Jai Kisan market located next to the national highway in Gandhi Nagar, Belagavi. Farmers and traders are being systematically cheated during auctions of shops, produce, and their price fixing, he said.

"While purchasing vegetables, the auction process should be conducted in the presence of farmers. However, by violating the rules and auctioning according to their whims, injustice is being meted out to traders and farmers. They are being oppressed," he said.

Fakir added that they filed a complaint at the police station against the people for carrying out trading in an illegal manner at the Jai Kisan private vegetable market. The govt should come to the aid of farmers and traders.
