Finding the right ventilation options for a greenhouse

In early spring, the air inside a greenhouse can heat up quickly due to increasing solar radiation, while the outside air remains relatively dry. If the vents are opened too far, the humidity inside the greenhouse can drop too quickly, which can have adverse effects on the crops. So, how do you strike the right balance? Consultant Hein Jasperse shares valuable information and tips for optimizing greenhouse humidity in the spring.

Avoid letting the temperature rise too rapidly
An effective way to prevent the greenhouse temperature from rising too quickly and moisture content from dropping too quickly is to set a minimum vent position just below the ventilation temperature, but still above the heating temperature. The advantage of this is a more stable greenhouse climate. "With smart ventilation, you help the crop achieve an ideal greenhouse climate," says consultant Hein Jasperse.

Configuring in Priva Connext
In Priva Connext, this process can be controlled easily by adding an extra influence to the minimum vent position. This can be done by linking the extra influence "Temperature difference" to the extra influence "Adjustment minimum vent position lee".

Smart ventilation, ideal result
By applying these settings, initially only limited ventilation is achieved. This causes the greenhouse temperature to rise less rapidly, allowing the crop to evaporate more and contribute to the natural cooling of the greenhouse. This ultimately results in a more stable moisture content and a more consistent greenhouse temperature.

"With the right settings in Priva Connext, you maintain control of the greenhouse climate. Fewer fluctuations in temperature and humidity ensure a healthier crop and optimal growing conditions," Hein Jasperse says. With smart ventilation, you make use of the crop's natural evaporation and protect the plants from unnecessary stress. This way, you'll be ready for a productive spring.
