Turkey: Green light for Yozgata geothermal project

Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the establishment protocol of the Yozgat Yerköy Geothermal Source Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone has been approved, granting it legal personality. This zone is expected to produce 30,000 tons of vegetables and fruits annually and provide employment for 4,500 people, 3,500 of whom are women.

Yumaklı stated that they have been working for some time to evaluate the potential of Yozgat, one of Türkiye's geothermal cities. He mentioned that a project was prepared to establish a geothermal Greenhouse Organized Agricultural Zone in the Yerköy district under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He emphasized that the establishment protocol of the Yozgat Yerköy Geothermal Greenhouse OTB has been approved, granting it legal personality.

Minister Yumaklı provided information about the Sera OTB, which will operate on an area of 125 decares. It will include greenhouse parcels for producing seedlings, vegetables, and fruits, as well as industrial parcels for processing, packaging, and storing these products to add value. Yumaklı also emphasized that the OTB will feature facilities such as a biomass facility, education and research centers, solar energy systems (GES), and waste management areas.

He stated, "Annual production of 30,000 tons of vegetables and fruits will be carried out in at least 25 technological greenhouses of 30 decares each. Employment will be provided for 750 people in the region, with at least 500 of them being women. When our project becomes fully operational, it will contribute 1.2 billion TL to the economy annually."
