Fiji places a suspension on imports of Brassicas products from New Zealand over pest fears

Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) has placed a temporary suspension on the import of fresh Brassicas produce from New Zealand, which includes lettuce and celery. BAF said this was effective from February 24, 2025.

"This action has been taken due to repeated interceptions of live pests in shipments and other noncompliance issues," said BAF in a statement. "The suspension will remain in effect until corrective measures are implemented and verified."

BAF said importers are advised to cease any further orders of these commodities from New Zealand until further notice.

"BAF will continue to engage with the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (NZMPI) to resolve these concerns and will provide updates accordingly."

"BAF seeks your understanding and cooperation as BAF endeavors to uplift the suspension at the earliest possible."
