Johan van Geest new CEO of Bom Group

Protected cultivation
"The companies behind Dutch greenhouse horticulture are leaders in the sector. The sector is growing, driven by an increasing demand for protected cultivation environments, both in the Netherlands and internationally, in response to climate change and the need for food security. Bom Group also plays a significant role in this important sector in the Netherlands and beyond. With an impressive track record in the horticulture sector and a background in marketing, sales, and strategy, Johan van Geest is highly qualified to take Bom Group into its next phase of growth", the team shares.

Van Geest emphasizes the importance of innovation and collaboration within the sector. "Bom Group has a rich history of innovation and is a top player on the global stage," says Van Geest. He is determined to focus on what Bom does best: being reliable and innovative. "We will continue to bring innovations to market quickly, with a foundation in the Netherlands built by a strong team that is experienced and technically well-trained." As part of his initial steps in the role, Johan plans to thoroughly get to know the company and its people to better address the needs within the sector. Additionally, he looks forward to applying his experience in horticulture directly. "As the son of a grower, and with a career in the agricultural sector, particularly in horticulture, I am excited to expand and apply my knowledge of greenhouse technology," he adds.

Partnerships Provide Complementary Expertise
Bom Group is part of Atrium Agri. Atrium Agri also includes companies like CambridgeHOK, Havecon, JB Hydroponics, Kascoplex, PB tec, SCRE3NS, VB, PowerPlants, VH Systems, and VEK Adviesgroep, creating a portfolio in the greenhouse horticulture sector. These companies collaborate, allowing for complementary expertise and increased capacity for complex and large-scale projects. This also forms a solid foundation for further developing and implementing innovative and sustainable solutions. Van Geest explains: "The strength of Bom Group lies in turnkey projects. We do this as an independent company, but partnerships are important. This allows us to fully take care of everything, from strategic advice and design to feasibility studies and maintenance of Controlled-Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems. We also coordinate operational matters."

Growth in the East
Mike Vermeij, who has led Bom Group since 2016, has guided the organization with determination and expertise. Under his leadership, the company achieved international growth and reinforced innovation within the sector. Mike will continue his career within the organization, focusing on growth in Asia and the Middle East. "I look forward to strengthening our presence in these promising regions and creating new opportunities for Bom Group," says Vermeij about his new role.
