US (NC): School receives new greenhouse and garden to serve students

Sandhills Classical Christian School (SCCS) has steadily grown its footprint since landing at the school's permanent campus in Whispering Pines in 2018. Thanks to junior Thomas Taylor and his Eagle Scout project, a new greenhouse and garden will serve students for the foreseeable future.

Taylor's project is more than a philanthropic gesture of goodwill; it also memorializes the life of the late Todd Zimmerman, former SCCS head of school.

Sandhills is a private Christian school with educational offerings from preschool through 12th grade. With humble beginnings, SCCS got its start in 1999 as a kindergarten class in a church office building. In 2016, the school received approval to build on a 58-acre tract on Rays Bridge Road just off N.C. 22 in Whispering Pines' extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Since then, the school's physical infrastructure and student population have grown by leaps and bounds. Last February, the school dedicated its newly completed courtyard. Outlined by freshly planted trees and plants, four sidewalk pathways separate SCCS' quadrant, all leading to the area's focal point: a gently flowing fountain adorned with three Roman-era nails woven together to form a cross.
