Students enrolled in agriculture and horticulture courses at Perquimans County High School are beginning a new era of instruction now that construction of the school's new greenhouse is nearly complete.
Susan Perry, PCHS agriculture instructor, said recently that work crews still need to finish hooking up the greenhouse's water, electricity and natural gas connections.
"We are very excited about our new greenhouse at the high school," she said, noting it will increase horticulture students' hands-on instruction on topics like plant germination, propagation and growth.
According to Perry, about 100 students at PCHS will be using the greenhouse this semester. Horticulture students also will be learning how to operate the greenhouse, she said, noting it will give them "an optimum environment" for learning how to operate a horticulture business should they choose that as a career.
