Biodegradable, compostable mulch is growing in popularity. Italy-based Raviplast has been producing biodegradable, compostable mulch film for several years. "We are now better organized to have a stronger presence on the market," says Sales Manager Daniele Martinelli. "We have a product that is tested and appreciated by operators. Our production and logistics facility is in Ravenna, in the Emilia Romagna region, and we can easily deliver the product both in the north and in the south of Italy."
BioRavi mulch sheet is applied and drilled with the same equipment used for plastic sheeting, but offers a higher yield per hectare thanks to its reduced thickness. It is a solution with minimal environmental impact due to its biodegradability and compostability in the soil. At the end of the crop cycle, it does not need to be removed or disposed of, but is incorporated into the soil along with the crop residues. Here it is transformed into water, CO2 and organic matter thanks to soil microorganisms that mineralize it.
"The sheet can be supplied in black or black and white, in the sizes requested by the customer," says Martinelli. "If someone claims that the cost per kilogram is higher than that of a traditional mulch sheet, I would emphasize that it is the number of hectares covered that counts. Because of its superior performance and reduced thickness, the sheet laid per hectare is significantly lighter than traditional mulch. As a result, the total cost is the same. In addition, since it does not require removal or disposal at the end of the cycle, these two costs offset each other, resulting in a net economic advantage."
"Raviplast's core competencies lie in the production of high-quality sheets, the wide range of thicknesses, widths and perforations that can be tailored to the customer's specifications, and our meticulous packaging process," continues Martinelli. "Our products are delivered within agreed timeframes and are backed by dedicated technical and commercial support. We are confident that our products will meet the stringent standards of agricultural businesses."
Raviplast's customers are primarily large corporations, retailers and technicians who purchase materials from multiple sources. Raviplast maintains a nationwide distribution network to ensure accessibility and support for customers across the country.
