Ukraine blocks imported lettuce due to quarantine pest detection

Ukraine has blocked a shipment of fresh lettuce from the Netherlands after detecting a quarantine pest during inspection.

The 10.37-ton batch, which entered Ukraine via Poland, was examined at a customs clearance facility in Lviv. During the phytosanitary inspection, authorities found traces of Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Perg.), an insect that is restricted in Ukraine due to its potential impact on crops.

Following Ukraine's Law on Plant Quarantine and international phytosanitary standards, officials ordered the shipment to be returned to the exporter.
