A new pink Marmande tomato set to enter the European market

The Limagrain subsidiary, HM. Clause, is kicking off 2025 with an addition to its tomato portfolio: a new Marmande-type tomato variety, to be officially unveiled at the Fruit Logistica trade fair. This specialty tomato, developed for production in Spain, boasts unique features. "It's a flavorful tomato with pink flesh, known for being easier to digest, which gives it a real edge," shares Anne Fourdrignier from HM. Clause's marketing and communications team.

This innovation highlights the company's commitment to providing growers with tailored varietal solutions for widely consumed produce. "According to a 2023 FranceAgriMer report, per capita tomato consumption in France was 13.5 kg. As an innovative seed company, HM. Clause develops varieties that meet both customer needs and industry challenges," she explains.

Debuting at one of the world's largest fruit and vegetable trade fairs also serves as a valuable testing ground. "It's the perfect opportunity to showcase this Marmande tomato—an iconic specialty type. Tasting sessions will allow visitors to experience its flavor firsthand, and our team of experts will be available to answer questions," adds Fourdrignier.

Adora

Adora and Intuitivo: Established specialty tomato success
In addition to this new release, HM. Clause will spotlight other specialty tomato varieties that have already gained traction in European markets. "Among our tomato varieties resistant to the ToBRFV virus, we have Intuitivo, a cherry tomato with excellent taste, strong yields, and virus resistance. It's particularly successful in Italy, Morocco, and Spain, where sanitary pressures are higher," explains Fourdrignier. Another standout is Adora, a specialty tomato that has become a household name in Spain. "Adora's unique brown color, influenced by its sugar and acidity levels, makes it truly distinctive. Its organoleptic qualities, high antioxidant content, and rich vitamins have made it a favorite among consumers. We've even partnered with producers to grow and market it under the Adora brand, making it one of our most successful creations," she adds.

Flamansun: A strong start on the French market
The Flamansun variety is making waves as it enters its second year on the French market, following its European recognition at the 2024 Fresh Market Awards in Poland. Known for its unique flamed-heart shape and striking yellow color, Flamansun has quickly gained popularity among consumers and growers alike. "This variety has enjoyed a strong debut in France, with highly positive results from tests conducted alongside our partner growers," explains HM. Clause. Flamansun's appeal is twofold: for consumers, it stands out with its juicy, melt-in-the-mouth flesh and eye-catching heart shape, while growers value its significant market differentiation and added value. Moreover, it offers flexibility, thriving under both cold-cover and heated greenhouse conditions, and boasts resistance to cladiosporiasis (HR).

In addition to Flamansun, HM. Clause will showcase a diverse selection of specialty tomatoes produced in France. Highlights include:

  • Diamandia F1: A long-heart tomato with melting, juicy flesh.
  • Dossimo F1: Another long-heart variety also cultivated in Italy.
  • Delisun F1: A ribbed yellow tomato.
  • Buffalopink F1: A ribbed pink tomato.
  • Bellogia F1: A classic red-ribbed tomato.

This rich portfolio underscores HM. Clause's commitment to innovation in specialty tomatoes, catering to a variety of consumer preferences and grower needs.

HM.Clause: A Seed Partner for the Food Industry
As a seed company that prioritizes the challenges of modern vegetable production, HM. Clause adopts a comprehensive approach to address both grower and consumer needs. The company's dedicated Foodchain team in Europe works closely with the food industry to anticipate future challenges and develop sustainable varietal solutions. With 18% of its turnover reinvested in research and varietal innovation, HM. Clause continues to position itself as a leader in specialty seed development.
