An experienced lettuce grower in Taiwan, operating a family-owned business, is preparing for the future by investing in cutting-edge horticultural technology. Transitioning from a static gutter setup to HAWE's Mobile Gutter System (MGS) will enhance their production efficiency while optimizing land use. This project represents a leap in sustainable agriculture, ensuring the business is ready for the next generation.
A tailored approach for growth
To maximize productivity, the project includes a dedicated seeding area and compact germination cells, enabling a high-density start on minimal square meters. The process begins with seeding in trays, offering operational flexibility and efficient handling. Young plants are then nurtured in HAWE's Multi-Layer Mobile Container System (MCS) with an ebb-and-flood irrigation setup, providing optimal growing conditions with a minimal m² footprint. This design allows for future expansion without increasing the nursery's size.
HAWE's custom solutions integrate into the project. The scope includes harvesting and packing systems, advanced irrigation, and nutrient control—all critical for achieving a high-performing setup. The greenhouse itself will be constructed locally, with HAWE overseeing the delivery and integration of the irrigation system as a core element of the growing process. Close collaboration with ITRI ensures alignment and quality across all system interfaces.
Impact and vision
This 1-hectare project is designed for organic production using a specialized substrate mix, meeting the demand for year-round cultivation and supporting Taiwan's transition to a self-sustaining horticultural sector. Located on a dedicated horticultural development campus, the facility's master plan allows for future growth across all operations.
