With all the new technical developments at Climalux last year, the development of yet another new grow light has also gained momentum. It involves the CLX-2-3ch full-LED grow lamp. "Thanks to the new type of LEDs we started working with, we can now offer a grow lamp with three switchable channels," explains Operations Manager Niels Damen.
Last year, the Dutch LED luminaire supplier made strides with a new grow lamp, the CLX-2, a self-developed Power Supply Unit, and also a new heart for the system, the Horticulture Control Unit. For those familiar, the HCU comes in the CTR series and MOD series. So developments followed each other in rapid succession in Hoek van Holland. "We have gone through a gigantic development. In the coming time, our focus is on introduction for the 2025/2026 exposure season and trials."
But before that happens, the official introduction of the CLX-2-3ch full-LED grow light will follow. That will take place at the IPM trade fair in Essen. Climalux can be found therein stand 3B42. With the latest lamp, Climalux now also offers a three-channel option. "This gives the grower multiple choices in terms of light spectrum," he says.

Boost function
The angular manufacturer's current CLX-2 grow light is available in several fixed spectra, including the daylight spectrum. With the three-channel version, the CLX-2-3ch, a grower can choose his own spectrum for one main channel and two sub-channels. For example, consider the combination of 85% red, 5% blue, and 10% far-red for the main channel, plus options to add, for example, green via one of the sub-channels.
The lamp has an output of 750 watts. Important to emphasize is that it remains so even when a grower switches. "This is possible thanks to the boost function the CLX-2-3ch is equipped with," Niels explains. "The three channels can be switched on or off independently of each other. Even if the grower is not using the two sub-channels, you can always boost the main channel to the full 750 watts. That way, your lighting will always be at optimal efficiency." The fixture has a maximum efficiency of 4.1 µmol/J.
Flexibility
All Climalux grow lights are composed of a dimmable lighting unit and a vertical ventilation system, which distributes heat and moisture evenly in the greenhouse. Light intensity and ventilation speed are separately and infinitely adjustable.
The latest Dutch-made fixture gives growers even more flexibility. Niels has noticed that growers are again tending towards a broader light spectrum, and don't always want to be stuck to one spectrum. Think of the tomato grower who also grows cucumbers or the ornamental grower who grows different types of crops throughout the season.
Climalux does not interfere with the grower's individual choices of lighting strategy. With the luminaire, the company does offer growers the option of adapting their own cultivation practices to the latest research findings. After all, a lot of research is still ongoing, especially now that more and more crops have switched to LED. Opinions are often still divided about what works best for which crop.

Fan
Climalux itself is betting on practical research. To this end, trials are currently running, including on tomatoes. One of the tomato trials also emphatically focuses on the role of the integrated ventilation system with which Climalux's fixtures are equipped. "I still see many advantages for this in the future, for example, aimed at an optimal microclimate. These days, the market is looking beyond just the light coming from a lamp. It's also about what lighting does to the crop. That's where our vertical fan can play a positive role."
