Arno Zerhusen and Dirk Moormann Pöppelmann TEKU:

“Customers now benefit from a fully recyclable product range”

Pöppelmann TEKU® has now completely removed non-recyclable black products from their range. "We are particularly proud of that", says Dirk Moormann, Area Sales Manager of this German plastics specialist. "Plant pots and pallets made of black plastic were long considered indispensable in professional horticulture due to their opacity and UV resistance. However, according to independent testing by the Cyclos Institute, they cannot be recycled. We have solved this problem: by switching to grey and coloured materials made from post-consumer recyclate (PCR), we offer alternatives that do not compromise on quality, conserve resources and close the loop between use and reuse. We have thus achieved the goal of a circular economy with our entire product range."

Avoidance of black plastics
According to Arno Zerhusen, Sales Manager DACH/BNL, the elimination of black plastics in their TEKU product portfolio is a real milestone, in line with the Pöppelmann blue® initiative. "We promote the circular economy to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our circular products in the Circular360 category were also created as part of the initiative. We use almost exclusively post-consumer recyclates (PCR) from household recycling collections to manufacture these products. They reduce the need for new raw materials and close the loop."

Ensuring high standards of recyclability
How does Pöppelmann ensures that the materials for their products meet the high standards of recyclability? Dirk Moormann: "We pay strict attention to clean recycling streams. Our suppliers are obliged to provide us with pure and recyclable raw materials that do not introduce any non-recyclable components, such as black material, into the recycling process. Customers can be confident that our products are made from exactly these materials. Independent certifications such as the Blue Angel, cyclos-HTP and RecyClass guarantee the fulfilment of strict environmental standards. This is how we actively contribute to the circular economy."

IPM Essen
From January 28-31, the IPM Essen will take place in Germany and Pöppelmann TEKU will be present again with a stand (Hall 2, stand 2D31). What will be on display? Arno Zerhusen: "We have prepared a series of new products that are all about increasing the efficiency of horticultural businesses. These include a completely new plant pot series that we manufacture using the thermoforming process. The pots are available in many sizes and will significantly improve automated processes in professional horticulture. These and other exciting innovations await trade visitors at the TEKU stand."
