Luxembourg's government is to offer €20 million in state subsidies for the construction of greenhouses, as part of a bid to boost the national production of fruit and vegetables.
The draft legislation was discussed for the first time during a closed-doors meeting of the agriculture committee on Thursday, according to a report of the meeting published on parliament's website. The grants will be capped at a maximum of €12 million, with a minimum investment required of €1 million.
Farmers will receive a subsidy equivalent to 40% of the investment, while young farmers will be paid up to 55%. Subsidies will be provided for greenhouses in which production activities take place, as well as buildings needed for the storage and packaging of products.
