Westland now reaping benefits of early electricity grid upgrade

South Holland's electricity grid has continued to fill up for large-scale consumers. Greenhouse horticulture in Westland spared the dance. This is due to early investment. Nicolette van Veen of Westland Infra explained to WOS that the extra capacity in the region was mainly realized to support the greenhouse horticulture sector.

"We did have congestion on the grid when many companies got combined heat and power (CHP) plants. We invested extra in that and 'laid out' the grid in a big way. We are now reaping the benefits of that," a spokesperson told the AD.

Even in Westland, however, space is not unlimited. Companies that want to increase sustainability may face restrictions in the future.
