The 29th Asian Seed Congress commenced on December 2 in Sanya, Hainan, China, and will run until December 6. Organized annually by the Asia and Pacific Seed Association (APSA), the event brings together stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region to develop collaboration and innovation in the seed industry.
The conference was held in Christchurch, New Zealand, last year. This year's theme, "Riding the Wave of Growth in the Asia Pacific," focuses on dynamic development and the potential of the region's seed sector.
Sanya, often called "Nanfan Silicon Valley," is a fitting host for this year's congress. Known for its many seed resources, the region has numerous breeding companies that have established advanced laboratories and nurseries. The event has drawn approximately 1,500 delegates from 52 countries to this year's event.
The program features five technical meetings, one seminar, and a special forum celebrating APSA's 30th anniversary. Experts from leading global companies, research institutions, and policymakers will address critical topics such as "Accelerated Innovation and Protection of the Seed Industry" and "Cross-border Trade of Seeds." These discussions aim to explore innovative solutions to key challenges in the seed industry, fostering sustainable growth and collaboration across borders.
Highlighting China's advancements in the seed industry, a seminar on investment prospects in China is also part of the agenda. This session will emphasize opportunities for international partnerships and focus on China's important role in driving progress in the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition to the conferences, attendees have the opportunity to explore Sanya's latest agricultural facilities. These include the National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City's Industry Promotion Center, and the Batou Base. These visits will display the integration of technology and agriculture in the future of the seed industry.
