Papaya cultivated in the greenhouses of Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, despite the region's unsuitable climate

In Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, 200 papaya trees are being successfully cultivated in the greenhouses of the S.A. Niyazov Chemical Plant, becoming a true pride for local gardeners.

This exotic fruit, also known as the "melon tree," was brought from Thailand and quickly adapted to the greenhouse conditions. The seeds of the plant germinate within 1.5 to 2 months at a soil temperature of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius, and the trees begin to bloom after eight months, reaching up to two meters in height. The first fruits appear five months after flowering. By the third year, the trees reach full productivity, yielding up to 100 kilograms of fruit per year.

Under the guidance of Babaguly Garyagdyev, a gardener with 24 years of experience in tropical and subtropical crops, the enterprise's greenhouses also grow 80 lemon trees, 25 banana trees, and two olive trees in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan. Despite the region's unsuitable climate, this demonstrates the high potential of greenhouse production.
