Finagricola

The orange plum tomatoes conquer the foreign markets

"We grow fresh produce, which accounts for 60% of the foreign turnover, as well as a line of processed products distributed under our flagship brand 'Così Com'è'. The growth trend is positive, considering that we are dealing with high-end products involving great attention to the health and well-being of consumers," reports Domenico Catapano, marketing and communication manager at Finagricola, the Italian parent company that owns three top brands within the fresh and processed fruit and vegetable sector.

"In the 2000s, we were among the pioneers of processed yellow plum tomato products. Today, brand novelties include the orange plum tomato preserve in the 'whole in juice' version. The new product has already found a place on the foreign markets, particularly in the United States and Japan. After having been introduced in the professional 'Grangusto' line dedicated to H&R professionals, orange plum tomatoes are now ready to be presented to consumers, who will be able to appreciate them for their unique characteristics. They stand out for their sweet flavour, intense notes, a firm flesh with few seeds, and a thin skin."

The range of 'Così Com'è' branded products is very wide, with a catalogue of preserves dedicated to red and yellow plum tomatoes: Natural, Whole in Juice, In Sea Water, Peeled in Juice, Sweet Datterino, Double Concentrate and finally the traditional Passata. The brand also launched the first line of red and yellow plum tomato Ketchup and Pizzutello-based barbecue sauces, using 100% Italian ingredients from a controlled supply chain with no preservatives or artificial flavourings.

Finagricola, a company based in Battipaglia (SA) with a turnover of 48 mln and 475 employees, manages vast agricultural crops and has a capillary presence in the H&R and big retail chain sectors. The company operates in the Piana del Sele where 11 members, with a production base of 31 farms, work about 300 hectares in a protected and controlled environment. The products are 100% from the domestic supply chain, from the seeds to the closing of the jars. The facility's total area of 17,000 square metres is divided into three areas for fresh processing, canning, labelling and product storage.

"Finagricola is an innovative company that keeps experimenting, which is why I strongly wanted this product, which is part of our constant search for what's beautiful and what's good, where excellence combines with aesthetics, technology and nature. At a time when cooking and gastronomy are increasingly becoming creative expressions even within our homes, we are certain that our consumers will appreciate not only its taste, but also its versatility in the kitchen. The packaging of the orange plum tomatoes also comes with a special label suggesting the ideal cooking time to enhance flavour and texture. In addition, thanks to the QR code on the label, consumers can access further information about the product."

As mentioned, 60% of the fresh produce is exported to Europe. As for the canned product, the export percentage is about 30%. In addition to Europe, there are America and Japan. All products can be found in supermarkets, specialised shops, food service and via e-commerce. The brand has an extensive presence in the H&R and big retail chain sectors and prospects for the development of exports are looking excellent.
