Last summer, Jansen Paprika, a member of cooperative Growers United, announced the acquisition of neighboring pepper grower Carlo Zwinkels. The official handover of keys took place on Monday. With this expansion, Jansen Paprika's cultivation area will grow from 25 to 45 hectares. According to the owners, Ron and Ivo Jansen, this acquisition is important for the future-proofing of their family business. "The development of our organization is key," said the brothers.
Since 1965, Jansen Paprika has been one of the pioneers in Dutch pepper cultivation. While the company has its roots in the Westland region, peppers have been grown in Andijk, North Holland, since 2007. With the addition of Carlo Zwinkels' nursery, the family business now has three sites with a total area of 45 hectares.
The acquisition fits within Jansen Paprika's broader strategy. "Growth also provides us with opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements," Ron and Ivo explain. "For our employees, this also provides new growth opportunities. Standing still is going backward and this way our organization continues to develop. With this step, we can fulfill our ambition to remain a leading player in pepper cultivation."
The coming period will be marked by the integration of the new nursery and the colleagues involved. "We are bringing together the best of both companies to form one well-run unit," the owners said.
Growers United, together with Jansen Paprika, is focusing on the future. "We are fully committed to the energy transition and robotization," said Ron and Ivo. All branches are connected to the same geothermal network, making good use of renewable energy sources. "In this way, we are prepared for the challenges and opportunities within the greenhouse vegetable sector."
Together with a number of fellow pepper growers, Jansen Paprika forms PapriCo, the block pepper brand of cooperative Growers United. Growers United is a cooperative of and for vegetable fruit growers. The cooperative has five brands, 25 family-run farms, and around 750 hectares of glasshouse.
