With two machines at work in the fields

"Drawing gutters on the spot is one of our hallmarks"

One of the most significant advantages of the Italian Combimetal Carrera product line is the capacity to install gutters up to 40 metres in length directly within the greenhouse. This feature is designed to attract customers and ensure the creation of a stable, effective and innovative above-ground installation.

Laying gutters

"We utilise an innovative technique that is applied directly on site, thereby reducing the number of joints between the sheets. This approach enables us to construct seamless gutters that extend the entire length of the greenhouse", says Rocco Carrera, the company's technical production manager who designed and constructed the above-ground systems up to three heights. "This is a complex and delicate operation, which requires the input of experienced personnel for installation. Our two 3.5m transportable machines ensure an efficient and streamlined process."

One way to reduce installation time and transport costs is to deliver only the necessary rolls of sheet metal to the customer's premises, he explains. "We recently completed a project for a well-known company in Basilicata, which entailed the installation of a double row of plants covering an area of 1.2 hectares. The team worked an average of 4.5 thousand linear metres per day to achieve this."

Steel industry
Over the past decade, the European steel industry has faced significant challenges, largely due to the gradual rise of China as a major competitor in the global market. China has emerged as Europe's primary export destination, offering products at prices that are below production costs.

"In terms of supply, we are relatively confident," says Carrera. "We currently have over 300 tonnes of sheet metal in stock, which provides us with the necessary raw material volumes to remain calm for a significant portion of the year and guarantee our customers prices that are not significantly different from those previously offered. We advise producers to contact us as soon as possible if they intend to set up an above-ground plant in the short to medium term. However, the duties imposed by Europe against China are beginning to result in the first reports of potential future price changes for certain components."

For producers interested in investing, Combimetal Carrera offers visits to strawberry farms in above-ground facilities. These visits allow producers to view the plant's structure and discuss production results.
