"One-stop shopping alternative to comprehensive crop package"

Three organic propagators join forces for smaller-scale nursery and other private initiatives

Three fully organic propagators are forming an alliance to provide Herenboeren and CSA companies with reliable organic starting material. By doing so, Dutch plant nurseries De Koster, Biological Youngplants, and GrowOrganiX anticipate market demands.

Wim van Marrewijk (GrowOrganiX) will further shape this project on behalf of the participants and also act as direct contact. He states: "Since the founding of GrowOrganiX last year, we have been actively approached by various buyer collectives, including CSA companies and Herenboeren, whether it was possible and there was a willingness on our part to meet the market as an alternative supplier of organic starting material. This got us thinking as a company, especially as not all specialisms are available in-house. That is why last Tuesday, 5 November, three renowned organic certified propagators - Plantenkwekerij De Koster, Biological Youngplants BV, and GrowOrganiX BV - decided to enter into intensive collegial cooperation so that we can serve the market with a complete package."

Joining forces
Wim explains that it was logical to take this on together. "You notice that the big problem for everyone is to bring the total package together. By doing this each on their own, we end up with huge logistics costs. It is precisely by joining forces and bringing them together in one logistical location that we will at some point be able to offer the range with much better national coverage. The companies fit well together, we have the same vision of reliability and quality. Even in the hobby segment, growers need to know exactly where they stand."

"Reliable quality and varietal purity"
From February 2025, under the direction of GrowOrganiX BV, a wide range of lettuce and cabbage crops, herbs, sweet potatoes, starting material, and fruiting vegetable crops will be available for this segment. "This is a wide range of both professional varieties and also seed-fixed varieties for the hobby market, as long as they are available in reliable quality and varietal purity. We believe that with the growing interest in home cultivation and the emergence of more and more short-chain initiatives, we are offering our buyers a unique opportunity to be able to purchase a wide range of crops through a one-stop shopping alternative. As initiators, our approach is that you receive what you order, in the quality you can expect from us - and always organically!"

There is already appreciation for the initiative from the market, Wim believes. "From the demand side, we have already received a lot of enthusiastic responses and I assume that quite a few orders will be in by the end of next week."
