Peat-free coir for plant propagation

Botanicoir, has launched 'Precision Start' to the market, a peat-free coir substrate."Backed by over 20 years of feedback from growers around the globe, Precision Start is engineered to deliver optimal water retention, aeration, and consistent, sterile conditions for propagation nursery growers."

Kalum Balasuriya, Botanicoir founder explains: "Botanicoir's Precision Start is years ahead of the curve, offering a natural yet engineered alternative that promotes sustainability without compromising on performance."

Precision Start
According to Botanicoir, Precision Start delivers benefits for growers, highlighting its water holding capacity "which ensures excellent water retention and drainage". The coir is sterile and buffered, enriched with calcium, and free from unwanted salts, resulting in low Electrical Conductivity (EC), states Botanicoir.

Botanicoir head of global sales, Sander Steinmann said: "Its consistent air-filled porosity provides the ideal oxygen levels young plants need for healthy root development. This balanced oxygen-to-water ratio promotes vigorous root growth and supports the formation of new plant tissue, ensuring strong, healthy plants from the start. All products are easy to use, growers simply hydrate them, let them expand and they are ready for planting seeds, seedlings, or cuttings directly."

Ross Mitchell, Castleton farm managing director has propagated around 30,000 raspberry canes and over one million tray plant strawberries in Botanicoir's Precision Start. "It's a well-buffered, even mix, not too fibrous, with a good open structure, which means it's good for the plants, but also goes through our potting machines without a problem. Ultimately, it's a balanced mix and the plants have done well in it," says Ross.
