In the Gobi Desert, vegetables are grown for Taikonauts in China

Yuan Bin works at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, located in the Gobi Desert, China. He is part of a team dedicated to growing vegetables and fruits that are then sent to taikonauts aboard the orbital station.

At the Satellite Launch Center, an entire garden has been established. This farm operates without soil or sunlight, but thanks to advanced technologies, the yield is always excellent.

"We rely on artificial lighting, nutrient solutions, and temperature control. LED lamps mimic sunlight, and a nutrient-rich composition replaces the soil."

Before entering the agricultural farm area, it is necessary to wear a protective suit, and disinfect hands, and all equipment.

"This is a sterile environment. We grow vegetables without fertilizers and pesticides. This ensures that astronauts will eat truly fresh and healthy products."

"Shenzhou-19" is the eighth crew that Yuan Bin has provided with vegetables and fruits. Although the employees of this unusual farm do not launch rockets, they make an important contribution to Chinese astronautics.
