The 2024 Korea International Exhibition of Machinery, Equipment, Science and Technology for Agriculture (2024 KIEMSTA) was held on 30 October 2024 in EXCO in the southeastern metropolitan city of Daegu, with its schedule to be finished on 2 November, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) playing host to the event.
The KIEMSTA is the Republic of Korea's largest exposition for agricultural machinery and equipment. The international event has been held once every two years since 1992, with this year marking the 16th anniversary.
The exposition showcases approximately 2,000 units and 432 types of agricultural machinery and equipment, with participants of 429 companies (335 and 94 companies from inside and outside South Korea, respectively) from 25 countries. A booth for future agriculture presents cutting-edge technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, such as hydrogen-powered tractors, an agricultural satellite system, crop-harvesting robots, light quantity-controlling systems, etc.
Other booths showcase diverse technologies as in the following: (a) electricity-powered tractors of 30 horsepower; (b) large-sized tractors of more than 130 horsepower; (c) systems of autonomously controlling cultivation environment conditions such as temperature and humidity by monitoring the environment inside and outside a greenhouse; and (d) generative AI-equipped energy-saving vertical farming technologies designed to grow strawberries.
Also, concerning agricultural facilities, materials, and equipment, business meeting opportunities are being provided for 32 Korean companies and 21 overseas companies from eight countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Spain. On 31 October, a seminar was held to share expert insights about the strategies for companies working in the smart-farming equipment and materials industry to enter global markets.
From 30 to 31 October, an international academic symposium was held to discuss the current status and prospect of the utilization of agricultural machinery using big data. From 31 October to 1 November, an international academic symposium on the livestock farming environment was held to share information on livestock farming technologies and policies for the sustainable livestock industry. Those symposiums were attended by scholars from Korean universities as well as from China, the U.S., India, etc.
Meanwhile, on 1 November, the MAFRA and the Department of Agriculture of the Republic of the Philippines had discussions about building a 20-hectare industrial complex for the production of agricultural machinery and equipment in the Philippines.
