VBT figures week 43

Price formation of vine tomato remains firm

Tomato prices at Belgian auctions fell last week. This is entirely in line with the five-year average. Traditionally, local unexposed cultivation and imports from the south overlap. However, the average kilogram price for vine tomatoes is still at a high level, higher than in recent years. For cucumber, the VBT average price slipped further last week, to now well below the five-year average.

The average kilogram price for loose tomatoes came to 98 euro cents in week 43. A kilo of vine tomatoes fetched over 1.77 euros per kilo.

Cucumber prices are falling hard, bringing the price for week 43 to over 21 euro cents.

Lettuce prices are also falling, but here the middle price in week 43 is still well above the five-year average, and above the 2023 and 2022 prices.

The middle price for strawberries fell to just below the five-year average. A kilo yielded an average of EUR 4.37.
