Dutch growers combine cultivation of grapes and algae in old greenhouse

Tim and Sharon van Koowlijk took over grape nursery Nieuw Tuinzight this year and combined their passion for the Westland grape with the cultivation of spirulina, a micro-organism. Despite challenges caused by the weather, they remain positive about the future of both grape growing and algae cultivation, they tell Dutch broadcasting organization WOS.

The entrepreneurs see algae as a healthy and environmentally friendly food for the future and want to make a positive impact on the world through it. The production of Alga.Farm, as the algae company is called, the entrepreneurs have relocated from the former swimming paradise Tropicana in Rotterdam to Zwethkade Zuid in Den Hoorn.
